Lost Piñon Nut Hunter

On Wednesday evening, October 7, 2015, a Search and Rescue Mission was initiated to find a missing piñon nut hunter in an area southeast of Santa Fe near Canada de los Alamos. The subject was reported missing by his companions earlier in the evening when he failed to return to their vehicle about three miles northeast of the village on FR79. He was described as in his 50’s with medical conditions requiring daily medications. Both ground search teams and canine teams were deployed into the search area and search efforts continued thru the early morning hours with no results. At 7:00am, the subject’s companions arrived at Incident Base and reported that the subject had walked to St. John’s College on the east side of Santa Fe and contacted a friend who transported him to the Guadalupe Shelter where he spent the night. That morning, he phoned his companions to report his location. A member of the Incident Management team was dispatched to drive to the subject’s location and accompany him back to Incident base for interview and EMS release. The Mission was closed shortly after 10am.
