Forrest Fenn Treasure Hunter Missing Near Santa Fe

On January 15th, 2016, a Search and Rescue Mission was initiated to search for a 54 year old Colorado resident who had not been heard from since January 4th. The subject’s vehicle was located Friday at the end of the Old Buckman Road and his dog and raft were subsequently located 9 miles down river. The initial operational period on Friday was suspended due to the loss of daylight and a second Operational Period was established for the following morning. The second OP was supported by Santa Fe SAR, AMRC, the Sheriff’s Posse, Cibola SAR, Sandia Dog Teams and the NM State Police Helicopter and Dive Teams. The terrain in the search area proved to be extremely difficult with dangerous high canyon walls which additionally created difficulties in maintaining radio communications with all search resources. After a thorough search of the area where the raft was discovered, with the absence of any actionable clues, the Mission was temporarily suspended. Private individuals have initiated subsequent search efforts with no results.
