If there is interest, Rick and I will put on a “Basic SKED” and “Avalanche Beacon” shade tree training on Sunday December 3rd at 9:30am at “The Shed” at the Eldorado Community Center. As you may know, “Shade Tree” trainings are low key and informal trainings that allow us to spend more time on specific skills.
We will try to keep the duration to 2 hours or less – but it will depend on how many people attend.
Please let us know if you plan to attend so we can get a head-count.
We will cover the following:
- SKED unrolling (a.k.a. wrestling :-))
- SKED latching
- Lacing the SKED bridle
- Re-rolling the SKED
- Avalanche beacon basics (on/off, modes, testing etc.)
- Searching: signal search, coarse search, fine search
The key is to get hands-on with the equipment, so please review the following prior to the training:
Basic SKED use:
Haul rope tie-in:
Please watch from 1:04 – 6:00 minutes
Avalanche Beacon Basics:
Trailhead Transceiver Test:
