SFNF Issues Closure Order for Cajete Fire Burn Area
JUNE 20, 2017 BY SFNFPIO 0 COMMENTS
SANTA FE, NM – June 20, 2017 – For Immediate Release. The Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) today issued a closure order for the approximately 1,400 acres on the Jemez Ranger District burned by the Cajete Fire. The restricted area includes: all lands, roads and trails within the fire perimeter (depicted on the closure map), Trail #137 between the last bridge coming from the Las Conchas Trailhead (before the trail ascends) and the East Fork Trailhead, and segments of Forest Road (FR) 270 south of the fire and FR 4G, 4GA and 4GB on the northwestern point of the burned area.
The closure order will provide short-term resource protection and reduce risk to public health and safety by restricting access to the area during fire suppression and rehabilitation.
Federal, state and local officers, members of an organized rescue team or firefighting force, individuals authorized by Forest Service permit, and contractors working on authorized forest restoration projects are exempt from the closure order.
The closure order will remain in effect until July 31, 2017, unless it is rescinded earlier. Violation of the closure order is a Class B misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for individuals and $10,000 for organizations, imprisonment of not more than six months, or both.
Copies of the closure order and map will be available at the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) Headquarters, the Jemez Ranger District Office and the SFNF website.
